Shazam (real name Solomon Conner) and G.I. (real name Darryl Jackson), the remaining members of 90s boy band H-Town are on a mission to forge ahead with their music five years after the sudden death of their fellow band mate--and Shazam's identical twin brother--Dino
(real name Keven Conner; pictured in the middle of the photo above). Proteges of Luther 'Uncle Luke' Campbell, these Houston, Texas boys scored their biggest hit single to date,
Knocking Boots (watch video here) from their 1993 debut album
Fever for Da Flavor. The group's second album
Beggin' After Dark was released in 1994 and spawned only one mediocre hit single entitled
Emotions. By the time 1997 rolled around, Shazam, Dino and G.I. had recorded a remake of The Persuaders song, (and one of my personal H-Town favorites),
A Thin Line Between Love and Hate (
watch video here) for the motion film of the same name, severed their ties with Campbell, found God and commenced to recording their third album
Ladies Edition, Woman's World which threw everyone for a loop. In a strange twist of events, the guys became more respectful towards women and more consciousness of their song lyrics. The album's theme revolved around the guys admitting to and apologizing for their past transgressions with women. I almost forgot how great this group was until I viewed their music videos again!
On the night of January 28, 2003, tragedy reared its ugly head when member Dino and his girlfriend were killed after leaving the studio where he and his two band mates had been recording their fourth album,
Imitations of Life. According to reports, an SUV slammed into the couple's vehicle killing Dino's girlfriend instantly. Dino later died en route to the hospital. He was only 28 years old. These days the surviving members insist on keeping their group's legacy alive as well as their fallen brother's memory by continuing to tour in the states and overseas. So, below you'll find photos of the trio-turned-duo performing at the Funky Buddah nightclub in London, England last Tuesday (5.6.2008).
